The consent helpfile has been significantly reworked, partially as a result of our decision to remove the Consent, Death, Mature and Plot options from +Prefs. Consent between players is now always more or less full consent, whereas consent between staff and players is more limited. Updated +helpfiles for +prefs will be installed shortly, and the new consent helpfile can be found here.

ASOIAF: The Adventure Game Information

Via Board Game News, some official information concerning Fantasy Flight Games’s in-development board game, A Song of Ice and Fire: The Adventure Game notes that it’s being designed by Eric Lang, who also designed the popular A Game of Thrones Collectible Card Game.

New Miniatures Preview Photos

As previously reported, Dark Sword Miniatures had a new series of miniatures in the George R. R. Martin Masterworks collection on display. GRRM has followed this up with a post at “Not a Blog” containing photos of a number of the wildling miniatures sculpted by Jeff Grace.

GRRM’s official site has been updated with a News item discussing the Songs of the Dying Earth anthology, with an almost-complete list of stories and contributors. Other updates include an update to his forthcoming Appearances and a pair of posts to his “Not a Blog” discussing Worldcon, work on A Dance with Dragons, and the entry of Brett Favre into the New York Jets.

Important Webring Changes

After a long time of trying to get a new webring setup (since the existing, off-site solution has not been usable for several years), we have decided that we will have to settle for a much simplified version, since we just don’t have the skill to code something more complex. Effective immediately, this will be the webring code used on the site, and the webring account at RingSurf will be closed as soon as any active sites that we are aware of have moved over to the new system.

We will email all sites that we still have a contact email for, to send out the new webring code and new site ID. If you have a site in the old ring and you don’t get an email, you will need to sign up again. We will also be accepting new signups.

Ice and Fire Calendar Announced

Below is the official press release announcing the availability of the A Song of Ice and Fire calendar, but just to get you extra excited, here’s some art! Two of the pieces will be familiar to fans who purchased the limited edition prints from Dabel Brothers productions, but you can glimpse a couple entirely new pieces among the dozen total. Linda and I have had the good luck to see most of the art, and it’s everything you could have hoped for from Michael Komarck. These look to be some of the definitive pieces of A Song of Ice and Fire art.

New FFG Board Game in Development

An attendee of Gencon has let slip and provided a few details concerning a new board game, A Song of Ice and Fire: The Adventure Game, secretly being developed by Fantasy Flight Games. The system in use is apparently similar to the already-published World of Warcraft: The Adventure Game. FFG has also published the A Game of Thrones Living Card Game and the A Game of Thrones strategic board game, as well as The Art of George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire.

Advertising the Game

We would very much like the help from our players to advertise the game in venues outside of those that we frequent ourselves, whether these are MU*s, livejournals or forums. An official ad can be viewed using ‘+display nymeria/ad’ (this will give you an evaluated version suitable for forums or livejournals) or ‘ex *nymeria/ad’ (this will give you an unevaluated version suitable for other MU*s). Players can feel free to modify this as they deem appropriate for the venue in question, or to write their own ad, as long as it does not give the wrong impression of the game.

The following points should be kept in mind:

1) Make sure that the venue in question allows advertising.

2) Only advertise in venues where you are a member of the community, unless it is a pure advertising MU*/livejournal/forum.

3) Make sure someone else has not already advertised the game in this venue.

4) If reciprocal advertising is required, we have an ElseMU* board setup for this purpose. However, the other venue would have to allow you to make the reciprocal posting, as guests cannot make use of it.

Player Level Jobs

We have added, and will continue to add, player level +jobs to the +jobs listing. These +jobs can be claimed by any player on the game who fits the requirements stated in the job description. Player XP will be awarded for the completion of such +jobs, with the amount being dependant on the complexity of the +job.

To see current player level +jobs, simply type +JOBS. If you wish to be assigned to a +job, just let Nymeria or Balerion know.

Idle Timeout

The Idle Timeout has been removed. This means that you can now stay connected for as long as you want.We are experimenting with this to see if players will find this useful or whether it may have a negative effect to have a lot of idle players on.

For those of you who have routers who disconnect you after a short time of inactivity, see HELP IDLE and HELP KEEPALIVE. Do not use a timer to send anything else but IDLE to the game, as that would make you appear active when in fact you are not.

Dark Sword Miniatures at Gen Con

Paizo Publishing has placed the poster map of the Seven Kingdoms, published in Dragon #307, on clearance sale for $1. It’s an older map that lacks a number of castles introduced in A Feast for Crows, but it’s certainly a bargain at the price.

Longclaw Now For Sale

Preordering of Valyrian Steel’s replica of Longclaw is now available. Preorder information, and pictures of the prototype sword, can be found posted a concept drawing for Needle, discussing some of the design decisions as determined by George and then turning to the production of the display piece. Needle should be technically easier to produce than Longclaw, and in comments it’s said that pictures of the actual Longclaw replicas will be revealed when pre-ordering is made available on Monday.

Experience Points

Experience points (XP) have now been retroactively awarded to all current players at a rate of 2 XP per month that their oldest player object has existed. These XP belong to the player pool. This means that once the tools have been coded, players will be able to transfer these between alts. Additional XP for OOCly helping out on the game have not yet been awarded, but we hope to get to that soon.

Furthermore, the cron job has been started that will award the weekly allotment of XP for the character pool. This allotment will happen each Sunday and will only be awarded to those who have connected within the last 7 days counting from the time that the cron runs on Sunday. This allotment will be 1 XP per week except for every 4th week when it will be 2 XP.

Your current XP totals can be seen on your sheet (+cdb/view me/sheet). The first number represents the total current XP and the numbers in the parenthesis represent the character pool and the player pool.

Green Ronin has placed the Quickstart Rules for the A Song of Ice and Fire roleplaying game online in PDF format. They’ve also announced that due to GRRM’s continuing work on A Dance with Dragons, they have revised their publication date for the game to October.

Feast for Crows Limited Edition Update

From Subterranean Press’s latest update, it seems that the limited edition of A Feast for Crows remains in a holding pattern. Everything is ready for printing, except the color art by Tom Canty. Problems such as a hard drive crash have significantly delayed the progress of the work, and Subterranean extends their apologies to those who are waiting for the book. In brighter news, March Fishman has already begun work on his illustrations for the limited edition of A Dance with Dragons.
