as promised page 102!

i had hoped to have a third page done for this weeks update, but other work had to be done. though i will try and have said page which is half inked up over the weekend, or maybe tomorrow night. we’ll see…

a few points of note:

new artwork in the FAN ART GALLERY! two pieces to be specific. a spore reinterpretation of the ghrung by brianna nontell and a collaborative rendition of nadia by jessa and arianna titled ’spread the love.’ 

i want to thank these girls, and everyone who has contributed to the kukuburi fan art gallery, it really makes my day when i receive great artwork such as this in my mailbox.

(and the grinches heart grew three sizes that day…)

regarding wallpapers, i’ll do what i can when i have a spare moment or two. either whipping up something new or reformatting an existing page or two into one.

i briefly mentioned this in a news post whilst on hiatus. not sure if everyone spotted it so i’ll reiterate. time permitting, i’m going to slowly begin designing t-shirts and perhaps prints/posters. i have a few ideas in mind but i’d like to hear what folks might be interested in seeing. character shirts? a brigade du chapeau shirt? something a bit more abstract? let me know…

finally a few have as regarding my tenancy court case. the hearing i was at this past wednesday was in superior court and it was adjourned. which is good. the case in superior court was put forth by the opposition in an attempt to have the case which i put forth in landlord and tenants court superseded. which would be bad and cost me oodles of money, money i don’t have. so in turn because they are a corporation with captial at their disposal they would have the upper hand.

luckily the case was adjourned because the judge in the landlord and tenants court took jurisdiction over my case and combined it with two other tenants cases. this ubercase will now be heard next friday.

and that’s when the fit will be hitting the shan…

well the past couple days have been late nights and early mornings due to work and legal meetings. i working on kuku, but i’m tired, so i’m going to wrap it for the night, plus i have an court hearing tomorrow so i feel i should be well rested. i will continue work on kuku tomorrow after the hearing and have three pages of story for all you fine folks for thursday.

hrm, it’s kinda like kuku and the squash switched places this week…

a little over a year ago, august 14th to be exact (the first 5 pages are back dated), i began kukuburi with a spark of an idea and a mission to have fun and tell an entertaining story. though i had the basic structure of the story worked out before i laid pencil i sometimes feel like a passenger on a ride being piloted by nadia and crew. they say characters tend to write themselves and these surely have, taking me in directions and adventures i never dreamed of. who knew 100 pages would come so quickly, i feel i need 500 more just to tell the story i want to tell! 

i want to thank you all, new readers and old, for the support and especially the understanding when updates became a little sporadic. i hope you’ve all enjoyed the ride thus far and i hope to keep you all glued to the screen as best as i can in the pages to come.

as well, i would like to give a quick thank you to evan yeong who was kind enough to scour the cast pages and correct my horrible horrible grammer.

…and now i must return to this grant thingie that is due in the next few hours.

EDIT:  i would like to extend a thanks to ODO for rectifying my (or would it be nadia’s?) russian transliteration. next order of business is learn russian…

greetings all,

apologies on the late update. my week suffered a bit of a domino effect as i had to crunch a deadline in over the weekend for issue three of marvel’s nyx which i am currently inking. this took me till monday afternoon and then as the evening rolled in i attended my first class of a screen writing course. so all the time i normally devote to kuku was eaten up!

but the class was loads of fun and i think i’ll quite enjoy it. i’m also, on the flipside, playing the role of teacher on fridays as i teach inking at a local animation school which has a comic book course. as well, for those who’ve asked, my tenancy battle is in a bit of a holding pattern right now as my next hearing is in mid-october. it’s going to be an interesting fall!

as well this weeks update is going to fall over two days as i’m feeling kinda burned out after the crazy work weekend. so today we have page 97 and tomorrow page 98 will go up. it’s drawn and flatted and now i just have to make it look al pretty.

oh and as a quick aside, i totally stole the look of nadia’s grandma from my good buddy SCOTT who does THE PORT. i was having trouble finding her look and then i remember a kindly old lady he killed in his story and she fit the bill perfectly. so i yelled across the studio we share and told scott “i’m stealing your grandma and you can’t stop me!”

as well for those keen of eye, you’ll notice a poster of ANDY B’s RAISING HELL in the background of nadia’s room. it’s a bizarre comic from i warped mind that i kinda felt nadia might’ve been reading at this time in her life.

so i originally said there would be a page up today, tomorrow and then thursday. well after a bit of rejigging and a little elbow grease this weeks return update is fully up. i had originally thought to do a 3 page update, but instead have reworked it into the standard two page one, saving the remaining sequence for next week.

now that aside, can i tell you how awesome it is to be back!?

man, have i missed kukuburi.

i feel like yammering on a bit more, but the motion of this train is making me a tad sleepy. so i’m going to chill out for the rest of the ride and talk to you all when i’m on solid ground…

well, here i am on a train on my way back home.

splurged on the $8 for internet so i could update kuku after i finished working on it. let me tell you, you don’t realize how rickety a train ride is till you try and do something of a delicate and precise nature!
