May 1st, 2008: Chris "Reprographics" Yates has a new book out for sale that looks pretty great! Reprographics is a fun comic because all this crazy stuff happens in it, but it's a photo comic, so you know that Yates was out there actually doing this stuff. It makes me say, Yates, you so crazy!

Also your friend and mine Jason Eppink has made some more cool stuff: check out his twenty-first century campfire. I also like his A Group Of Images And One That Does Not Belong (2) (3) (4).

For more weird disease and disorders, read The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat: And Other Clinical Tales.

It. Is. Badass.

I keep meaning to read that; Oliver Sacks is a very engaging author and presenter.

A lot of the stuff that was happening to me while I was growing up made a lot more sense to me after I read Migraine... I hadn't realised that migraines covered so much ground until I read that.

Tell me about it. I'm eternally squicked out by mental diseases you don't even realize you have.

Hey dude, I asked God basically the same question just yesterday and this was his answer.

I'm satisfied.

my favorite weird-ass disease is fatal familial insomnia... where you can't sleep until you slowly go insane and then die.

fun times!

I tried telling people how awesome "The Family That Couldn't Sleep" was and they were all backing away slowly. PRION DISEASES ARE THE NEW YOGA, PEOPLE.

My favorite little-known disease is Maple Syrup Urine Disease, because it is exactly what it sounds like, and it is much worse than you'd think.

For people who want to read about weird diseases that are presented in a funny manner, get The Hypochondriac's Pocket Guide to Horrible Diseases You Probably Already Have by Dennis DiClaudio.

Fatal familial insomnia, mentioned above, is in there. So's one of the health problems I have, cyclic vomiting syndrome. I'm not sure how reliable the research actually is (for example, cyclic vomiting syndrome is primarily, though not exclusively, a disease of childhood that often eases into migraines at puberty, which isn't terribly amusing), but that's understandable with something that tries to condense the details of diseases into short and amusing pieces.
